تضرر الملايين من البشر من موجة الجفاف التي تضرب الصومال وجيرانها، والناجمة عن ظاهرة النينو.

وبحسب الأمم المتحدة، هناك 1.7 مليون شخص في الصومال نفسها، بحاجة إلى المعونات.

ومن المناطق الأكثر تضررا من موجة الجفاف التي تضرب المنطقة حاليا، منطقة أودال شمال غربي الحدود مع إثيوبيا.

وتؤثر ظاهرة «النينو» على نحو 60 مليون شخص، بما في ذلك بعض من أكثر الفئات ضعفا في أفريقيا وآسيا وأمريكا الوسطى والجنوبية ومنطقة المحيط الهادئ.

ومن المتوقع أن يصل تأثير الجفاف الناجم عن تلك الظاهرة إلى ذروته في أواخر 2016، وأوائل 2017، وقد يسوء الوضع إذا تصادف حدوث ظاهرة «النينيا»، والتي غالبا ما تتبع «النينو»، في نهاية هذا العام.
